This World Refugee Day, we’re donating 1% of our total revenue from 2021 to Migrant Offshore Aid Station, because that’s THE DEAL.
In 2021, Matte PR introduced THE DEAL, a 3% give-back pledge seeing us donate to causes important to our local and global communities. This World Refugee Day, we’re donating 1% of our total revenue from 2021 to Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS), an organization providing life-saving aid and assistance to the world’s most vulnerable migrant communities.
Its Safe and Legal Routes (SAR) mission sees it rescue migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa to Europe. Between August 2014 and 2017 MOAS rescued over 40,000 people during its SAR missions in the Central Mediterranean and the Aegean. It continues to do this work today.
“When I was a student at the University of Malta in the early 2010s, I witnessed the Maltese government and other EU countries choose to leave humans to drown at sea rather than save them. Thinking about this blatant inhumanity by European governments still makes my stomach turn, and seeing it happen in real-time had a profound impact on me,” said Heidi Ruggier, president & founder of Matte PR. “I swore back then that when I could, I would donate to a cause to specifically help these migrant families in Malta. This is why I’ve chosen to donate to MOAS annually. Not only do they continue to save migrants (read, humans) whose boats have capsized at sea, but they also support migrant and refugee communities inside Malta.”
Along with helping communities in Malta, MOAS also runs missions in Bangladesh, Syria, Yemen and Somalia. In its latest mission, MOAS is delivering medical aid and assistance to the conflict-affected civilians of Ukraine. You can donate to MOAS’ Mission Ukraine here.
