My Canadian Closet | Carlos + Alyse
The Canadian fashion industry should be nurtured, supported and celebrated. It has never been more important to shop local from brands that are designing, manufacturing, and retailing close to home. Canada is home to some of the world’s most talented photographers, producers, filmmakers, stylists and designers, so we’re celebrating incredible talent born and bred right here that have put cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal on the style map.
Cue, My Canadian Closet, our Q&A series interviewing some of our favourite creatives and discussing which Canadian designers have made an impact on their wardrobe.
For this week’s instalment of our Canadian fashion series, we spoke to big time fashion photography duo, Reiner Carlos and Brittany Alyse. Known as Carlos & Alyse, the power couple have worked with global magazines and retailers such as ELLE Canada, Vogue Arabia, The Kit, Holt Renfrew and Hudson’s Bay. We spoke with them about their personal styles and the Canadian brands inspiring them.

Which Canadian designer do you feel inspired by?
We love Beaufille!
What is it that draws you to this designer?
They always manage to create interesting silhouettes, but maintain an element of beauty!
If you could pick one Canadian item in your wardrobe to talk about, which would it be?
A: I’d pick my jumpsuit from Horses Atelier.
C: My WCROW corduroy cargos.

How do these items make you feel while wearing them?
A: I LOVE wearing this jumpsuit! I always feel so confident when I put it on! The proportions are super flattering and the material is so much more substantial than most other jumpsuits I’ve tried on.
C: I feel great! If it was acceptable to wear the same pair of pants every day, I probably would wear these! I’ve worn them with sneakers, I’ve worn them with boots – they’re so comfy. They’re awesome.
When do you like to wear these pieces? Are they everyday staples or do you wear them on special occasions?
A: I like to wear mine in the fall/winter months, as it’s a bit too heavy for the hotter times of the year. But I love wearing this jumpsuit when we’re shooting or on set!
C: Everyday staple!

When you think of these items, does a specific memory stick out?
A: Not really a memory, but every time I wear it, someone will usually either compliment me, or tell me they have the same one or another similar style from Horses. It’s cute, like we’re giving each other props for making a good choice/purchase.
C: I loved the experience going to their launch last year and purchasing the pants.
