My Canadian Closet | Dorian Who

We’re back with another My Canadian Closet, created to champion the work of some of our favourite local designers and creatives.

For this instalment of the series, we spoke with Dorian Who, the founder of her namesake streetwear brand. The Toronto-based designer is focused on creating sustainable, seasonless designs that are bold, avant-garde, and work to encourage the use of fashion as a form of self-expression. Found in the glossy spreads of ELLE Canada, Vogue Arabia, FASHION, Business of Fashion, The Kit, and many more, Dorian continues to proudly display Canadian craft worldwide.

We got to ask the cutting-edge designer about the Canadian labels she loves and how she styles her wardrobe favourites. Keep scrolling.

Which Canadian designers do you feel inspired by?

I feel inspired by so many great Canadian artists! To name a few, David Dunkley, Uncuffed leather, AiToronto, Biko.

What is it that draws you to these designers?

Their passion, their hard work, their hope, and their positivity towards what they create!

If you could pick one Canadian item in your wardrobe to talk about, which would it be?

I would like to talk about the beautiful “Rebel Mama X UNCUFFED Winter White Cage Leather Body Harness” from UNCUFFED made by the talented Olga Barsky in collaboration with The Rebel Mama.

How does this item make you feel when wearing it?

Unique and super sexy.

When do you like to wear this piece? Is it an everyday staple of yours or do you wear it on special occasions?

Honestly, I can style it anytime either casual or on a special occasion! I love white accessories

When you think of this item, does a specific memory stick out?

We’ve been in lockdowns and we’re all so tired of not doing anything special and making cool memories. For me, getting ready to celebrate the Canadian Art and Fashion 2020 at home virtually and the wonderful CAFA was something I enjoyed a lot. Being able to style these pieces with my own designs was something that I will never forget.
