Bluebird Laser Hair Removal partners with Connect Fund to enhance access to gender-affirming laser hair removal services
Bluebird Laser Hair Removal, a pioneering laser hair removal clinic founded to serve the needs of trans women, is thrilled to announce its partnership with Connect Fund. Established by Dr. Kate Greenaway, Connect Fund is a privately funded Canadian organization committed to bridging healthcare gaps to provide gender-affirming care, including hormone replacement therapy, chest contouring, laser hair removal and voice coaching, to name a few. For Bluebird, the fund will cover 50 per cent of the cost of facial hair removal services for their trans female clients who cannot otherwise pay.
“We are beyond excited to be partnering with Connect Fund,” says Djuna Day, founder of Bluebird Laser. “Facial hair removal is a critical part of gender-affirming care — it’s often the first step a newly out trans woman takes, and for many trans women is essential for workplace safety, mental health and the ability to navigate the world with confidence and dignity.”
Recognizing the unique challenges faced by the trans community — including lower incomes, long wait times for gender-affirming care and discrimination — Connect Fund aims to provide financial assistance of up to $2,000 per person to cover trans-related care not covered by OHIP, ensuring equitable access to these essential medical services.
“Connect Fund is stepping up to provide financial support where the healthcare system is falling short. While it’s clear that trans and non-binary healthcare isn’t a current priority for the ministry, we’ve realized the need to be creative and demonstrate what’s possible. The costs to support one person are nominal, but the impact is exponential,” says Dr. Kate Greenaway, founder of Connect Fund. “Access to gender-affirming care can be life-changing — I’ve seen individuals thrive once they receive the support they need. This is why we’re thrilled to partner with providers like Bluebird Laser, Red Oak Therapy and Voices by Kylie.”
Some of the fund’s generous supporters include The Tegan and Sara Foundation, The 519 Community Centre, EGALE Canada, PurposeMed, Skipping Stone and Pride at Work.
