Can you tell us a bit about your journey into content creation? What inspired you to start?
I’ve always been super creative, and expressing myself through fashion is the best way for me to show just how my brain works. It wasn’t until COVID started a few years ago, we were all forced to stay home and instead, I decided to record myself styling outfits on TikTok. At the time, it was definitely something that helped me stay sane and scratch that creative itch even when the world around us seemed to be so uncertain of anything. Dressing up and having fun with clothing brings me joy, and as a result of posting my outfits online, I’ve been able to bring happiness and inspiration to others too! It’s the most rewarding feeling in the world.
How do you balance staying true to your creative vision while also meeting the demands of your audience?
I started my TikTok for myself really, and although it now has become so much bigger than just me, I will always prioritize my morals and creative vision before anything else. While I love learning about new fashion trends, I never want my social pages to feel like they’re pushing a certain image or product on anyone. I am all about embracing and loving who you are, just as you are.
How do you handle creative burnout or moments when you’re feeling uninspired?
I’m a big collector and a huge fan of vintage, so when I’m feeling uninspired, I like to look to the past – I’ll watch 90’s/early 2000’s runway shows of my fave designers, rummage through my old toy collections or even watch some of my fave movies for inspo! Sometimes, the simplest things can spark a creative idea in us.
You call yourself a “sustainable maximalist”. What advice would you give to someone looking to shop more thoughtfully?
I’ve always been a secondhand/vintage shopper, so the best ways I practice sustainability are upcycling what I already have into something new and fresh, wearing something in a completely different way than it’s meant to be worn, clothing swaps with your besties and shopping small, ethical designers. When you purchase one-of-a-kind garments that are made to last, you don’t need to own a million things! I mean, how special is it to have something forever that no one else does?!
Thrifting has evolved over the years, especially with the rise of resale culture. What are your top tips for finding the perfect pieces?
My number one tip for hunting down the piece you’re looking for – for a reasonable price – is to be consistent! I set alerts on eBay, Etsy and Poshmark for items I may currently be on the hunt for and lowball bids where I can. For in-store thrift shopping, I tend to search for any random/off-road, hole-in-the-wall thrifts and antique stores – they aren’t picked over and tend to have more unique finds!
Is there a piece you passed up while thrifting that you still think about?
There was one time almost seven years ago, I left behind the most iconic Juicy Couture bag at the thrift store because I already had two at home. I figured I’d let someone else freak out about finding the Y2K bag of their dreams, but I do still think about her every day. I hope she made it to a home where she is well-loved.
The Pantone Color of the Year for this year is Mocha Mousse. What’s one way you’re excited to incorporate this colour into your looks?
I’m excited to incorporate this colour into my makeup rotation the most to be honest! I love a creamy brownish nude lip, and I think it’s the perfect shade to wear on a beach vacation with a bit of a tan. I’m also a sucker for a mocha nail polish- which I think we will be seeing a ton this 2025!
What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a content creator?
My number one piece of advice is to be consistent and have confidence (even if you have to fake it a little). I think the number one fear that stops people from posting themselves online is the fear of judgement or looking silly. As long as you believe in the content that you put out, that’s all that should really matter.
